Poker + women = ?
"It's a man's world" is what we always hear and women have always endured since time immemorial. But times have changed and women are battling for their fair share. While some say that even poker is a man's world, women refuse to agree by showing the men that they also have what it takes to win at poker. Some of these women have already made their name in the poker world such as Barbara Enright, Jennifer Harman, Annie Duke, Kathie Liebert, Susy Isaacs, Wendeen Eolis, Cycalona "Clonie" Gowen, Cindy Violette, Nani Dollison and Cissy Bottoms.
Some of the listed above have made their way to the World Series of Poker and took home the prestigious World Series of Poker bracelet. They are Barbara Enright, Jennifer Harman, Annie Duke, Susy Isaacs, Wendeen Eolis and Nani Dollison. Most of these poker ladies even won not only one bracelet but multiple World Series of Poker bracelets. They all made it big in World Series of Poker, but one stands out. While most of them won the World Series of Poker Women's event, Barbara Enright made it to the final table of the main event in 1995. What is so surprising about that? She was the only woman who had done so.
Barbara Enright shares the glory with Kathy Liebert of being the only women who made it to the Top twelve poker tournament players. Liebert is the only woman in the top twelve in 1997, Enright in 1998 and then Liebert again in 1999.
Jennifer Harman and Cindy Violette have also something in common. They are both popular in high-stakes poker. It is believed that Harman is the best woman poker player to play high stakes poker.
Annie Duke, on the other hand have no specialty, and why is that? Because as Phil Helmuth has put it, Annnie Duke is the best all around woman poker player. However, Annie Duke refuses to be classified according to gender she tries to play in tournaments alongside men.
Gowen is believed to have a bright future in poker, having won the Belaggio World Poker Tournament and placing 10th in the Costa Rica poker tour.
Unlike all that were mentioned above, Cissy Bottoms does not really dwell on tournaments. Instead, she prefers to play in live play, where she is much respected by her colleagues for her talent.
